Types of Delivery
We have various means of delivering our wood chip and pellet fuel to our customers. At most sites we now use our chip tankers from which we blow the fuel along flexible hose direct into the boiler hopper, just like a heating oil delivery. We were the first UK wood heating company to utilise a chip tanker. At larger sites we utilise tipped deliveries or removable hook lift containers.
When installing a new system it is of great importance to work with your local fuel fuel supplier to ensure that the most suitable delivery method is being used. By doing so the long term delivery costs can be significantly reduced.

Blown Delivery
Mostly used when space is in short supply. Blown delivery methods are useful if the storage hopper is located in an area inaccessible by a large vehicle. MWF’s trucks are fitted with a powerful blower which can send chips or pellets through a flexible pipe into a storage hopper away from the delivery vehicle.
The maximum distances in which wood chips and pellets can be blown are as follows:
Wood Chip – Up to 8 meters horizontally and 3 meters vertically Wood Pellets – Up to 16 meters horizontally and 4 meters vertically
Tipped Delivery
Tipped delivery can include unloading wood chip directly into a hopper below ground or into an auger which feeds a hopper above ground. Tipping directly into a hopper is one of the quickest methods of delivery resulting in a reduction of delivery cost. If the storage area is inaccessible or above ground, an auger can be used to send tipped wood chip from a more accessible area.
Hook Lift Bins
Hook lift bins are the quickest form of delivery allowing for delivery costs to be further reduced when designed correctly. The reason for this is that the fuel in their storage container is simply swapped with the empty one. The bins themselves tend to have walking floors which feed an auger directly connected to the boiler.
We collect the storage bin and fill it directly from the chipper or by chip stored in one of our depots.
The full bin is then transported to the site where it is attached to an auger which feeds the boiler.
The bin therefore not only acts as a means for transport but also as a storage facility.
